Amitabh Bachchan was born to a Hindu-Sikh family in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His father Harivansh Roy Bachchan was a well-known Hindi poet. His mother Teji Bachchan is a Sikh-Punjabi from Faisalabad (now in Pakistan). Bachchan’s first name was Inquilab, inspired by the unforgettable phrase of India’s freedom struggle, Inquilab Zindabad. Later his name was changed to Amitabh meaning “that light which is not extinguished.” Although their surname was Srivastava, he started using the pseudonym Bachchan used by his father when publishing his writings. It was with this title that Amitabh made his debut in the world of photography and everyone in his family uses the same title in the outside world.
In the early1970, he became popular in the Bollywood film world as an “angry young man” and over time, Amitabh’s son actor Abhishek Bachchan, also known as ‘Big B’ or Big Bachchan, became the most important person in the history of Indian cinema.
