He was later elected Prime Minister of Russia. He also served as President of the United Russia Party and President of the Cabinet of Ministers of Russia and Belarus from 2008 to 2012.

Vladimir Putin was born in Leningrad, St. Petersburg, Russia. His full name is Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. His father was a Soviet naval worker, and his mother was a factory worker. Vladimir Putin was the youngest of their three children. His grandfather Spiridon Putin was the personal cook of Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin. His two grandfathers died in infancy. He served in a Soviet submarine during World War II and was later transferred to the General Army. In his private life, Putin married Ludmila Srebneva, a former aviator born in Kaliningrad on July 28, 1983. They have two daughters. Both lived in Germany from 1985 to 1990. According to the BND archives, Putin had a German spy friend and was beaten by Putin because of his love affair. After leaving Germany in 1990, rumors spread that Putin had left an illegitimate child.

On December 31, 1999, Putin took over as President of the Republic of Russia. He took over the presidency in the wake of the sudden resignation of then-President Boris Yeltsin. But due to constitutional constraints, Putin will not be able to run for a third consecutive term as president.
