Ross Taylor made his international debut for New Zealand on March 1, 2006. The West Indies were the opposing team in the one-day international match. He is Samoa’s second male player after Murphy Suarez to play for the New Zealand team. Taylor was the first captain in 2010. Thirty minutes before kick-off, Daniel Vettori was punched in the nose by a one-day international match against Australia.
